Random Thought One: Mitch Marner Was Magical<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mitchell Marner showed his magical skills on the ice with a two-goal, two-assist performance that left no doubt about his abilities. His playmaking and offensive creativity were on full display. While his scoring might be a bit down this season, he was a standout contributor in the Maple Leafs’ 7-1 win over the San Jose Sharks last night.<\/p>\n\n\n

Random Thought Two: The Entire Team Came to Play<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Maple Leafs’ entire team seemed to be involved in the win – every line and defensive pairing was solid. Aside from Marner, Morgan Rielly, Auston Matthews, Pontus Holmberg, Jake McCabe, and Nick Robertson also joined the goal parade. At least on this one night, Toronto’s depth and offensive versatility showed through. The team’s ability to score from different lines bodes well for their dynamic offensive abilities. Pontus Holmberg scored an amazing one-handed goal in the game – a great play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Random Thought Three: Hard Not to Root for the Sharks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The San Jose Sharks have found themselves in troubled waters. Not only did they lose last night but their their losing streak is now a staggering 12 games. Toronto exploited defensive gaps. As well, the Sharks struggled to contain the relentless offensive onslaught. It was a nice win for the Maple Leafs, but it’s hard not to feel bad for the Sharks players. I know the team is rebuilding, but it has to hurt to lose so consistently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Random Thought Four: Auston Matthews Continued Being a Sniper<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Auston Matthews continued to display his sniper instinct. He scored a remarkable power play goal that I have to watch several times on replay to see it all. His ability to find the back of the net from difficult angles adds another dimension to the Maple Leafs’ offense. Matthews now has 31 goals in 37 games this season. His scoring power carries this team. Can he reach 70 goals?<\/p>\n\n\n

Random Thought Five: Nick Robertson Returned with a Goal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With Noah Gregor out sick, Nick Robertson returned from being a recent healthy scratch. His goal was a laser. It was his sixth goal of the season and showed why he’s been often lauded for his scoring ability. While he’s not playing every game, he is providing an impact when he does play. It will be interesting to see if he becomes an extra forward this season when Gregor returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
