Toronto, for all its cosmopolitan nature, is a working-class city. Most Maple Leafs\u2019 fans love hard-working players. And Hyman exemplified that aspect in his play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/oldprof.nhltradetalk.com\/index.php\/2022\/11\/27\/good-bad-ugly-maple-leafs-win-penguins\/\">THE GOOD, THE BAD, &amp; THE UGLY IN MAPLE LEAFS\u2019 4-1 WIN VS. PENGUINS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Made Hyman Great Also Makes Bunting Great<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hyman was a hard-working, puck-digging, never-say-die player. His unique skill, if it really was a skill rather than a way of engaging the game, was that he just simply wouldn&#8217;t quit working. Regardless of the score or the situation, fans could count on Hyman to doggedly seek the puck. He simply works hard. Last night during the Maple Leafs\u2019 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins, Bunting executed a play many fans have watched several times. I know I have.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During that play, Bunting collected the puck in the defensive zone and skated up the right-hand boards. All the way through the middle of the ice, Bunting bunted the puck ahead with his stick while protecting it with the rest left side of his body. In that process, he fought off three Penguins\u2019 defenders.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BRAVO BUNTS!! \ud83e\udd2f <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/s3pwXF0z1K\">pic.twitter.com\/s3pwXF0z1K<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Toronto Maple Leafs (@MapleLeafs) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MapleLeafs\/status\/1596693955454066688?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 27, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When Bunting finally lost his balance and fell to the ground, he didn&#8217;t quit even then. While on his back, he swept the puck with the shaft of his stick to his teammate Auston Matthews who found space alone about 15 feet in front of the Penguins\u2019 net. It took Matthews a split-second to collect the puck on his stick, and then he snapped it past Penguins\u2019 goalie Casey DeSmith into the back of the net.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/nhltradetalk.com\/three-takeaways-maple-leafs-win-vs-penguins\/\">Three Takeaways in Maple Leafs\u2019 4-1 Win vs. Penguins<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bunting Shares His Thoughts About the Win and His Team\u2019s Play<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;In an interview after the game, Bunting spoke about that play and also commented on the play of teammates Mitch Marner and Matthews.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marner is now on a 16-game, point-scoring streak. That&#8217;s the second-highest point-scoring streak in Maple Leafs\u2019 franchise history.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matthews, although he&#8217;s not scoring as he did last season when he crossed the goal line 60 times, now has logged 24 points on 10 goals and 14 assists in his 23 games this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, as shown last night, all the Maple Leafs\u2019 players are part of a team. Last night&#8217;s game against the Penguins was a game in which the team really worked hard. They deserve the 4-1 victory, especially because they were playing with a decimated blue line. It didn&#8217;t seem to matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Bunting Interview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the interview below, Bunting spoke to Kyle Bukauskas after the team\u2019s win over the Penguins. He talks about the team\u2019s recent success and both Marner\u2019s and Matthews\u2019\u00a0 impressive play. As noted in the interview, Bunting believes that success comes from simply \u201ckeeping it simple.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"s2nPlayer-gW8Ouul19Q-2387510-11057\" data-type=\"single\"><\/div><script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.sendtonews.com\/player2\/embedcode.php?SC=gW8Ouul19Q-2387510-11057&#038;autoplay=on\" data-type=\"s2nScript\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bunting\u2019s Comments\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comment One: The Team Is Confident<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Bunting noted that the team is \u201crolling right now. We have some confidence in our team, and I think we&#8217;re just playing defensively and capitalizing on offensive opportunities.\u201d He believed the team just had to \u201ckeep it simple.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comment Two: Mitch Marner Is Helping His Team Win<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Bunting also noted that, as everyone knows, Marner has been on a run. His goal 40 seconds into the game made it 16 straight games with a point. Marner kind of set the table for the group; and, as Bunting commented, \u201cit&#8217;s a great run that he&#8217;s going on and we&#8217;re all really happy for him. Hopefully, he can keep that going.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"708\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/oldprof.nhltradetalk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Mitch-Marner-b.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-634\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oldprof.nhltradetalk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Mitch-Marner-b.jpeg 708w, https:\/\/oldprof.nhltradetalk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Mitch-Marner-b-212x300.jpeg 212w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 708px) 100vw, 708px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mitch Marner, Maple Leafs<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Bunting noted that the goal 40 seconds into the game was a \u201clittle relief.\u201d However, Bunting added that Marner was \u201cplaying great hockey and was creating a lot.\u201d However, Bunting noted that Marner was also \u201cplaying well on the defensive side.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comment Three: Setting Up Matthews\u2019 200th Even-Strength Goal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Bunting was explicitly asked about the shift when he set up Matthews for his 200th career even-strength goal. He noted that the context was that the Penguins had \u201cjust scored and now we&#8217;re only up by two, so I had to put in a good effort there.\u201d He \u201cjust tried to get into the zone and was able to battle off a few guys and find Mattie there when I was on the ground.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bunting noted that, because Matthews was \u201cable to finish it\u201d it \u201cwas big for us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comment Four: Matthews Is Playing Great Hockey Even If He Isn&#8217;t Scoring<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked about the emotion on Matthews\u2019 face, Bunting tried to describe Matthews\u2019 mindset. He noted that Matthews was \u201cplaying great hockey, even if he isn&#8217;t scoring.
