Just this past week, Auston Matthews was named as his team’s representative to the upcoming NHL All-Star festivities. However, as the NHL All-Star Game approaches, the Toronto Maple Leafs find themselves with two other strong contenders for the event. Those players are Mitch Marner and William Nylander.
Matthews, the face of the franchise, was a shoo-in for a spot. He also was named to be one of the captains of the event. However, will another Maple Leafs representative be voted onto the team? If so, will it be Marner or Nylander?

Auston Matthews: The Unquestionable Choice
Matthews’ season has been spectacular. He’s on pace for an impressive 70 goals on the season. His goal-scoring abilities have made him one of the NHL’s top players. The All-Star Game is also a nice stage for Matthews; and, he’s likely going to have fun with the opportunity.
But, what about the other two Maple Leafs’ players?
Considering Marner and Nylander for Spots on the All-Star Team
Mitch Marner Has Had a Quietly Solid Season
Indeed, Marner has not had the same strong season as Matthews. Nor has he put up the same flashy statistics that his linemate has put up. Still, he has been quietly solid. His numbers put him into the NHL’s top 25 in scoring, and his contributions to the Maple Leafs’ success – both on offence and on defence – cannot be overlooked.
What makes his case even more interesting is that the All-Star Game will take place in his backyard. Marner’s valuable play should make him a strong candidate for representing the team at the All-Star festivities.

William Nylander: A Quiet Force to be Reckoned With
William Nylander has been building a case for his All-Star inclusion all season long. Even in the shadow of Matthews’ goal-scoring prowess, Nylander has had a season to remember. He’s set Maple Leafs franchise records with points-scoring streaks. His season has already written his name into the Maple Leafs record books.
Although he doesn’t match Matthews’ goal-scoring numbers, Nylander has put himself in the top five for NHL scoring. His lengthy points streak and offensive abilities have made him a valuable asset to the Maple Leafs. As the season has progressed, Nylander’s potential All-Star selection seems increasingly likely. He’s been a key part of his team’s success.
The Choice Between Marner and Nylander for an All-Star Berth
The choice between Marner and Nylander adds an extra layer of interest to the Maple Leafs’ All-Star Game. Will both or either of these strong Maple Leafs players be a part of the festivities? As the All-Star rosters take shape, it’s now up to Toronto fans to vote to see if their team can be represented in this event.
