In a heartwarming tradition, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Tyler Bertuzzi recently spoke to the media about his annual act of kindness. He donates his hair to a charity supporting children with cancer and their families. For Bertuzzi, the act has been transformative – perhaps more in terms of his feelings than his look. Bertuzzi expressed gratitude for his ability to take part in this initiative.

As he noted, “You don’t need it (the hair) again (but) kids with cancer (benefit).” He noted that his act was “just for the kids and families.” Bertuzzi emphasized the impact of small gestures like donating his hair, stating, “Little things like that, you make a difference in cutting it off and donating.”
During the All-Star Break, Bertuzzi Returned to Michigan
During the NHL bye week, Bertuzzi went to Michigan and donated his hair to the ‘Wigs for Kids’ charity. The decision to cut his hair had nothing to do with changing things up on the ice. Instead, it was a meaningful act that resonates beyond the rink. The Detroit-area hairstylist, Alyssa Bellestri, who worked with Bertuzzi, is associated with ‘Wigs for Kids.’ That is a charitable organization that donates hair to kids fighting cancer.
“It’s tough for the kids and the family, and little things like that. Instead of just cutting it off and putting it in the garbage, you may as well donate to them,” Bertuzzi explained. While some teammates gave him playful looks, the 28-year-old forward suggested that he remains focused on finishing the second half of the season strong after returning with a clean new look.
Good on Bertuzzi for his thoughtfulness.
